BATON ROUGE - LSU men's tennis players Neal Skupski, Olivier Borsos and Chris Simpson earned First Team All-Louisiana honors, the Louisiana Sports Writers Association announced Sunday. Simpson was named Louisiana Freshman of the Year as well.
Simpson went 13-8 overall and made the All-SEC Freshman team. He is ranked in the top 100 in the nation and has two wins over ranked opponents, including a 1-6, 7-5, 5-4 ret., result over then-No. 20 Sadio Doumbia of Georgia.
The Derby, England, product played doubles alongside Skupski all season. The duo reached as high as No. 24 in the doubles rankings, and finished the season on a five-match winning streak.
Skupski received First Team All-Louisiana honors for the third time in his illustrious career after reaching the NCAA Tournament round of 16. The three-time All-American finished the season 18-9 with six of those wins coming over ranked opponents.
The Liverpool, England, native racked up 78 singles victories throughout his career and was ranked as high as No. 26 in the ITA singles rankings.
Borsos also placed on the first team after a season in which he defeated seven ranked opponents, including Georgia's then-No. 8 Wil Spencer 7-5, 6-4, and was named second team All-SEC.
The men's and women's all-state teams were selected by the tennis sports information directors of the state after nominations were made. Under LSWA rules, SIDs could not vote for their school's players.
