ATHENS, Ga. -- At the end of day one of the NCAA Singles Championships, it has been decided that LSU men's tennis senior Neal Skupski will continue his run, while fellow teammate Olivier Borsos' junior campaign will come to a close at Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
No. 55 Skupski had no problem cruising by UCLA's 16th-ranked Nick Meister in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the second round of the NCAA Singles Championships.
No. 35 Borsos, on the other hand, met a different fate, unable to slow down eighth-ranked Blaz Rola of Ohio State who took the match in straight-set fashion.
"It was the tale of two matches today," head coach Jeff Brown said. "Blaz Rola played one of the best matches I've seen. In the other match, Skupski was on fire. He is playing some of his best tennis right now. Olivier had a good year and has set himself up for a high ranking next season. We are excited that Neal will continue on."
Borsos will conclude his junior season with an overall record of 12-12. He defeated seven ranked opponents this season and was named to the All-SEC Second Team.
Skupski looks to face Georgia's No. 32 Sadio Doumbia on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. CT.
