BATON ROUGE - Multiple student-athletes from four LSU teams participated in the week-long 4-H AgMagic event hosted at LSU's Parker Coliseum. Lasting from April 23-29, the event aimed to educate people on the agricultural system and how clothing, lumber and food are all a part of it.

Student-athletes volunteered for the interactive agricultural maize, where they led tours and worked at various stations within the maize where they went into more depth about certain plants and animals.

"I liked spending time with the children and teaching them new things about agriculture," Track & Field's Joseph Caraway said. "I was stationed at the chicken pen one day, and the other day I was a tour guide leading a group of students throughout the maize.  I'm from a small rural town, and I think agriculture is very important. It was a joy to work at AgMagic this year."

Other students had the opportunity to work with live animals in the petting zoo, and they taught children how to properly handle goats, sheep and baby chicks.

Volleyball setter Malorie Pardo especially enjoyed working with the children and the animals in the petting zoo.

"Being able to work with kids while interacting with plants and animals is so rewarding and fun," Pardo said. "The best part of the whole thing is talking to the kids about their favorite station in AgMagic and watching them get so excited at the end when they get to pet all the farm animals!"
