BATON ROUGE -- No. 12 LSU (18-6) plays host to Louisiana-Lafayette (13-10) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Alex Box Stadium. The contest is billed as a "Pink Game" to promote breast cancer awareness and research. The Tigers will wear pink batting helmets and pink wristbands during the game.

In addition, ceremonial first pitches will be thrown prior to the game by breast cancer survivors Cathy Mainieri Gagnon, sister of LSU coach Paul Mainieri, and Mary Ann Mahtook, mother of former LSU All-American outfielder Mikie Mahtook.

The game will be carried by the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network, with Baton Rouge affiliate WDGL 98.1 FM serving as the flagship station. Live video, audio and stats of the game may be accessed in the Geaux Zone at www.LSUsports.net/hdbaseball.

"This is a very important week for us beginning with the ULL game and continuing this weekend against Arkansas," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "We've had some great games with ULL since I've been the coach here, and I think the players on both sides really enjoy the competition. We have tremendous respect for (ULL coach) Tony Robichaux and his program, and we're looking forward to playing a quality opponent in front of a big crowd."

Mainieri said that sophomore right-hander Joe Broussard (2-0, 5.27 ERA) will start Wednesday's game on the mound for the Tigers, though it's unlikely he will pitch more than two or three innings. Mainieri plans to use several pitchers in the game to prepare his staff for the weekend series versus Arkansas.

ULL will counter with freshman right-hander Austin Robichaux (0-2, 3.60 ERA), who is expected to work two innings before yielding the mound to the bullpen.

LSU has a team cumulative batting average of .306, which ranks fourth in the SEC. The Tigers have 10 homers and 17 stolen bases in 25 attempts.

LSU junior rightfielder Raph Rhymes leads the Southeastern Conference with a .473 (43-for-91) cumulative batting average. Rhymes hit .455 (5-for-11) in last weekend's series at Auburn with two RBI and one run scored. In four games last week, Rhymes batted .467 (7-for-15) with one double, three RBI and one run scored.

Catcher Ty Ross batted .417 (5-for-12) in the Auburn series with two RBI. In the Tigers' four games last week, Ross hit .467 (7-for-15) with four RBI and one run scored. Junior first baseman Mason Katz batted .400 (6-for-15) in four games last week with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored. Katz was 4-for-12 in the Auburn series with one double, two RBI and one run scored.

Second baseman JaCoby Jones provided five hits in four games last week, including the game-winning single in the top of the ninth inning Sunday at Auburn. Jones has the game-winning hit in two of LSU's three SEC wins - he delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning on March 16 versus Mississippi State.

ULL is hitting .279 as a team with nine homers and 32 steals in 45 attempts. The Cajuns are led at the plate by sophomore shortstop Ryan Leonards, who is batting .356 with six doubles, three triples and 16 RBI.

ULL sophomore first baseman Chase Compton is hitting .348 with nine doubles, two triples, one homer and 14 RBI, while freshman outfielder Dylan Butler is hitting .275 with team-highs of six homers and 29 RBI.

LSU leads Louisiana-Lafayette, 45-23, in the all-time series between the schools. LSU has won seven of the 11 meetings since 2000, but the Cajuns posted an 11-5 victory over the Tigers last season in Alex Box Stadium.
