BATON ROUGE --- After a five-match homestand, the 25th-ranked LSU men's tennis team hits the road to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide Friday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
LSU (7-3, 1-1 SEC) opened SEC play this past weekend, hosting both No. 9 Kentucky and No. 48 Vanderbilt. The Tigers split the weekend, falling 5-1 to the Wildcats on Friday and bouncing back to defeat the Commodores, 6-1, to close out the weekend.
Senior Neal Skupski and 66th-ranked junior Olivier Borsos both picked up ranked wins for the Tigers. Skupski defeated Kentucky's No. 16 Alex Musialek, and Borsos took care of No. 62 Charlie Jones of Vanderbilt. LSU looks to use this momentum and carry it into the match against the Crimson Tide.
"Alabama is a very good team," head coach Jeff Brown said. "We will need to use our recent home success and our earlier road wins to draw on for confidence. We understand the level of intensity it takes to succeed."
Alabama (5-6, 0-2 SEC) is coming off two tough losses against Mississippi State and Mississippi. The Tide boasts one ranked singles player in No. 115 sophomore Daniil Proskura, and one ranked doubles pairing in No. 33 Proskura and Carlos Taborga.
The match is set to kickoff at 2 p.m. CT at the Alabama Tennis Facility.
LSU last met Alabama in the 2011 SEC Tournament. The Tigers took the match in a 4-0 decision. The Tigers lead the all-time series against the Tide 35-20.
