BATON ROUGE - Seventeen LSU student-athletes from four different sports gave up their Saturday to serve the children in the Baton Rouge community at the Louisiana Association of Educators' Read Across Louisiana event, hosted at the Mall of Louisiana.

Dr. Seuss was the theme of the event, as all the student-athletes read his stories to all the visiting children, who were given Dr. Seuss hats. Some volunteers of the event wore costumes, like Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2, and men's tennis player John Michaelis sported a Grinch costume.

Volleyball's Helen Boyle enjoyed participating in the event and meeting the children.

"I loved seeing how enthusiastic the children were to hear us read," Boyle said. "It was also fun to see some of the tennis players dressed up like Dr. Suess characters. When everyone works together to make the kids have a good time, it turns out to be a great experience and very rewarding."
