SAN DIEGO - Fresh off a come-from-behind victory over San Diego (1-5), the LSU Lady Tigers Tennis team (4-2) will face San Diego State (2-4) in a Mardi Gras matinée on Tuesday with first serve slated for 4 p.m. CT at the Aztec Tennis Center.
"San Diego State is a very solid team, they are always a nice program," LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. "We need to use the momentum we have right now to keep improving going forward."
LSU won its third-consecutive match on Sunday over San Diego in dramatic fashion, with the overall match coming down to a final set tiebreaker on court four after both teams split the first six points. Ebie Wilson outlasted her opponent in a match filled with breathtakingly long rallies, and battled back from going down an early minibreak in the deciding tiebreaker to clinch the match for LSU.
Olivia Howlett and Yvette Vlaar have led the way for LSU recently as they both triumphed in doubles and singles against San Diego. The pair has prevailed in its last two doubles matches in addition to each having emerged victorious from their prior three singles matches.
Howlett has emerged the victor in 11 of her previous 16 matches including a win in her first career court one appearance in the most recent outing. Vlaar has taken seven of her last 10 singles appearances.
Whitney Wolf and Keri Frankenberger make up the Lady Tigers' most in-form doubles partnership having vanquished the opponent in each of their preceding three matches to go along with a 6-4 record in the past 10.
The all-time series between the Lady Tigers and Aztecs is knotted up at 1-1. LSU took the matchup the last time they played 6-1 in 2007.
