BATON ROUGE - For the first time since the 1991 basketball season, the voting members of the Southeastern Conference media pre-season poll, picked the league finish as one unit and not in Eastern and Western Divisions.

The league, which had been split into two six-team divisions since the last realignment when South Carolina and Arkansas joined the league prior to the 1991-92 season, will play as one 12-team league in 2012 with the top four teams receiving byes through the first round of the SEC Tournament, which will be held March 8-11 at the New Orleans Arena.

LSU was selected ninth in the league this year with 91 points from the panel of 23 media members which selected the standings based on a 12-1 voting basis. Kentucky was the choice of the voters to win the league after going to the Final Four a year ago with 18 first place votes and 282 points, 17 points ahead of Vanderbilt. The Commodores received four first place votes and Florida, picked third, received one first place vote.

Terrance Jones of Kentucky was chosen as the Player of the Year.

The 2011-12 SEC Media Preseason Poll tips off SEC Basketball Media Day this Thursday at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Ala. Coach Trent Johnson will attend along with All-SEC Freshman team member of a year ago, Ralston Turner. Turner, a sophomore from Muscle Shoals, Ala., is the team's leading returning scorer at 12.3 points per game.

Coach Johnson will meet the media in Baton Rouge Tuesday afternoon prior to a 6 p.m. scrimmage that is open only to members of LSU's Sixth Man Club. Coach Johnson is expected to coach that scrimmage barefoot as part of his support of Samaritan's Feet, a program supported by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Information on Samaritan's Feet and to donate to Coach Johnson's effort can be found at www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/Coachjohnson/barefootforbarefeet.
