Men's Tennis Players Ousted from ITA Qualifying
TULSA, Okla. -- LSU men's tennis junior Olivier Borsos was eliminated from the ITA All-American Championships Tuesday after coming up short in both the singles qualifying draw and the doubles qualifying round with teammate Neal Skupski.
After coming off an exciting victory over No. 81 Jadon Phillips Monday, Borsos brought his top game, grinding out the first set against Ohio State's Connor Smith 6-4. However, Borsos could not hold on and eventually met defeat, dropping the final two sets 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, Borsos and Skupski debuted against East Tennessee State's Jesus Bandres and Sander Gille, where Skupski racked up two aces in their first game. The Tigers battled the entire match until Bandres and Gille edged by them, stealing the match away 9-8.
"We had two tough matches today," assistant coach Danny Bryan said. "We fought hard in both matches, but just came up short. These matches are rough, but we have to move forward and use these losses as motivation to continue to work hard and learn from our mistakes."
The Tigers are still looking to make their mark on this tournament. Skupski will continue play for the Tigers with his first singles match in the main draw on Thursday. Time and opponent are to be announced.
