Notes on the Tigers
LSU is undefeated through seven games for the third straight season ... the Tigers began the 2009 season with nine straight wins, and LSU started the 2010 season with a 12-0 mark ... the Tigers have scored in double figures in four straight games, marking the first time LSU has achieved that standard since the 2009 season ... LSU scored in double figures in six straight games from Feb. 25-March 4, 2009 ... freshman JaCoby Jones was sensational at the plate last week, batting a blistering .636 (7-for-11) with one double, one homer, six RBI, five runs and two steals ... he also recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 16 chances ... Jones led the Tigers to a three-game weekend sweep over Holy Cross by hitting .750 (6-for-8) with one double, one homer, four RBI, four runs and two steals ... he recorded four hits in the Game 1 victory over the Crusaders, becoming the first LSU freshman to collect four hits in a game since catcher Micah Gibbs accomplished the feat versus New Orleans on May 13, 2008 ... Jones is hitting a team-best .571 (12-for-21) on the year with one double, two homers, nine RBI, eight runs and three stolen bases ... sophomore first baseman Alex Edward hit .500 (6-for-12) last week with one double and six RBI, while sophomore rightfielder Mason Katz batted .462 (6-for-13) with three doubles, one triple and five RBI ... junior shortstop Austin Nola hit .455 (5-for-11) last week with oen double, one triple, one homer and six RBI, and sophomore designated hitter Raph Rhymes drove in nine runs while batting .438 (7-for-16) with four doubles ... freshman right-hander Kevin Gausman earned his first career collegiate win on Friday over Holy Cross, limiting the Crusaders to three runs on four  hits in six innings with three walks and seven strikeouts ... junior right-hander Tyler Jones picked up his first NCAA Division I win last Tuesday over New Orleans, limiting the Privateers to just three hits in five shutout innings with no walks and six strikeouts ... freshman right-hander Kurt McCune earned his second win of the season Saturday, limiting Holy Cross to one earned run on four hits in six innings with no walks and three strikeouts ... McCune is now 2-0 on the year with a 0.75 ERA while recording two walks and 10 strikeouts in 12 innings of work.
