BATON ROUGE - The LSU softball team checked in with a No. 13 and No. 18 preseason national rankings according to the ESPN.com/USA Softball and USA Today/NFCA Top 25 polls released Tuesday.

The Tigers return 15 letterwinners highlighted by eight position starters and four pitchers from a squad that went 34-18-1 last season. Juliana Santos, Kirsten Shortridge and Cody Trahan each earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-South First-Team accolades in 2009.

"We still have a lot of work to do, but the pieces are starting to come together where the players are most comfortable on the field," head coach Yvette Girouard said. "It's nice to be included among the nation's elite softball programs, but what matters most to us is where you finish the season not where you start."

LSU has 14 games slated against Top 25 opponents, including nine contests against four teams inside the Top Eight of both polls that participated in the 2009 Women's College World Series. Joining the Tigers from the SEC among the Top 25 are No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Florida, No. 7 Georgia and No. 16 Tennessee. Auburn, Kentucky and Mississippi State also are receiving votes between the two polls.

Non-conference ranked opponents on LSU's 2010 schedule include No. 19 North Carolina and No. 21 DePaul, who the Tigers take on during opening weekend at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational. The Tigers also have tilts against Houston, Jacksonville State, Oklahoma State and Texas from the receiving votes category.

Remaining season and individual game tickets are scheduled to go on-sale Wednesday at 8 a.m. and can be purchased online at www.LSUSports.net, the official Web site of LSU Athletics. Tickets also can be purchased in person at the ticket office on the first floor of the Athletics Administration Building or by calling (225) 578-2184 or (800) 960-8587.

There are a limited number of chair-back seats available. Bench-back [Section 102 and 106] along with general admission [Sections 101 and 107] and outfield berm seating also will be on-sale. LSU students, faculty and staff are admitted free to Tiger softball games with a LSU ID.

Fans are encouraged to get their season tickets to guarantee great seats for LSU's impressive home slate that features 16 games against 2009 NCAA Tournament teams highlighted by match-ups against Michigan and Georgia, a pair of Women's College World Series squads.
