BATON ROUGE -- LSU sophomore forward Storm Warren’s consistent play earned him the vote as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s first men’s college basketball player of the week as announced by the group after voting on Monday.
Since this was the first voting of the season, all games for the month of November were taken into consideration and the straight Player of the Week voting will being officially next Monday.
For the first five games of the season, Warren averaged 15.4 points a game and 9.6 rebounds, the third best rebounding total in the SEC. His 5.6 offensive boards a game ranks first in the SEC. In the first three games of the season he had double doubles – 15 points-12 rebounds vs. ULM, 14-12 against Indiana State and 20-11 against Western Kentucky.
In the process he became the first LSU player to have double doubles in three consecutive games since Glen Davis early in the 2006-07 season.
Last week in the NIT games in the Garden, he continued his double figure scoring streak, posting 15 points against Connecticut and 13 against Arizona State.
