BATON ROUGE -- LSU head coach Van Chancellor and the Lady Tiger basketball coaching staff lent a helping hand on Thanksgiving Day as the group participated in the 23rd annual “Thanksgiving Together” put on by Holiday Helpers Inc., at the Baton Rouge River Center.

Chancellor, associate head coach Bob Starkey and assistant coach Kenya-Larkin Landers served food and drinks and volunteered for the community-wide dinner that has annually served food to the needy. Chancellor also addressed the people in attendance about the significance of the day.

“It was great to be a part of this on such a special day,” Chancellor said. “We should all be thankful for what we have. It is a joy to get involved in our community and help in any way we can.”

“Our staff is thankful today to volunteer with Holiday Helpers Inc.,” Starkey added. “This is an amazing organization that puts on three major events each year, at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. There was such a great spirit there from everyone at the River Center and it was a huge crowd of volunteers and participants.”

One of the volunteers who joined the staff was former LSU All-American and WNBA star Seimone Augustus. Augustus has annually volunteered at the event with her family.

LSU (5-0) returns to practice on Friday in preparation for Tuesday’s game at Louisiana Tech. The Lady Tigers held on to defeat Tulane, 73-65, in overtime on Wednesday night in New Orleans.
