BATON ROUGE -- LSU women’s tennis head coach Tony Minnis announced Monday that Ariel Morton will be a freshman Lady Tiger for the 2010-11 season.

“We’re really excited to have Ariel on our team. She has a tremendous amount of potential,” said Minnis. “She’s been one of Texas’ top players for a few years and will be a great addition to our team.”

Morton, a five-star recruit, holds a national ranking of No. 46 and a Texas state ranking of fourth by tennisrecruiting.net and has been ranked as high as No. 34 nationally.

The Houston, Texas, native owns a 46-21 record with three wins over blue-chip players, eight victories against five-star players and 25 wins over four-star players. Among her impressive wins, Morton took down tennisrecruiting.net’s fourth-ranked Blair Schankle in the semifinals of the USTA Texas Section Super Championship Excellence. She captured the 2009 Texas doubles championship and finished second in singles in the 2008 state championships.
