BATON ROUGE -- Muna Lee has made a name for herself as one of the world’s premier sprinters as a 20-time All-American at LSU and two-time U.S. Olympian, and now she hopes to make an impact off the track in her hometown of Kansas City with the creation of the Muna Lee Foundation.

Lee returned to her alma mater at Central High School on Friday and announced the creation of the Muna Lee Foundation, which will provide scholarships for graduating seniors and help pay for equipment costs for students who want to compete in the sport of track and field.

After speaking to the student body in the school’s auditorium, Lee received a proclamation and presented her Olympic jersey to the school in honor of her foundation.

“The Olympic experiences, they were some of the best experiences I have ever had. Seeing the world and running track, I’ve grown with that,” Lee said in a press conference following the event. “I come back here and I’m able to speak to the kids, it’s a big deal to me. It’s a chance for me to give back.”

While racking up 20 All-America honors during her collegiate career at LSU from 2001-04, Lee captured four NCAA titles with the Lady Tigers, including the 60-meter dash in 2004 and the 4x100-meter relay in 2001, 2003 and 2004. Lee was instrumental in leading the Lady Tigers to four national championships for her career, including three-straight team titles at the NCAA Indoor Championships from 2002-04 and one win at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2003.

She has gone on to a successful professional career while competing for the United States in the Olympic Games in 2004 and 2008, which includes a fifth-place finish in the 100 meters and a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters in the Beijing Games last summer.

Lee, who is already training for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, said she would also like to graduate with her degree and start a fashion line and see a track facility built in Kansas City.
