LSU and Viacom Sports Reach Long-Term Multi-Media Rights Agreement

BATON ROUGE -- LSU and Viacom Sports have completed negotiations for Viacom Sports to manage the multi-media rights of the LSU athletics program for the next 10 years.

Viacom Sports will do business as LSU Sports Properties in its representation of LSU Athletics in the sports marketing community.

The agreement, under final legal review and pending final approval of the LSU Board of Supervisors, gives LSU Sports Properties the right to market all rights associated with LSU Athletics' corporate sponsorship packages; on-premise signage; radio, TV, print and Internet; game sponsorships; premium hospitality; event marketing; and promotions. LSU Sports Properties will assume the rights to LSU's game day programs beginning in July of 2006.

"We are extremely pleased with this agreement and the relationship of LSU and LSU Sports Properties," said Skip Bertman, Athletics Director for LSU. "LSU Sports Properties is a new and dynamic addition to the LSU Athletics family. It is important for our future and it will be great for our fans."

LSU issued a request for proposal (RFP) in September of 2004 with the purpose of seeking to maximize revenues and program effectiveness by licensing its multi-media rights. Four major firms responded to the RFP. Viacom Sports was selected as the leading proposer and began negotiations last December with LSU.

"Throughout this negotiation period, Viacom Sports has proven it will be an outstanding partner in representing LSU to existing and potential sponsors," Bertman said. "We have accomplished our goal of creating a single source through which local, regional and national companies can establish a high-profile identification with LSU athletics."

"Viacom Sports is honored to have the opportunity to work with this prestigious athletic program and to meet its marketing needs for the long term," said Doug Paschal, Vice President and General Manager for Viacom Sports. "We know how important LSU is to sponsors and fans not only here at home, but also across the country, and we are excited about the opportunity to improve their experience.

"We've put together a team of seasoned professionals from Louisiana along with our current staff that has hit the ground running in enhancing the LSU brand," Paschal said.

The agreement provides to LSU other financial incentives and creative marketing and promotional plans for the athletics program, as well as exposure opportunities for the University to promote its academic programs. LSU Sports Properties has also developed several initiatives that will enhance athletic facilities, the overall game-day experience for fans and the service of sponsors.

Leading LSU Sports Properties is Ward Wyatt, Director of Sales, who served as Manager of Sponsorship Sales for the New Orleans Hornets and previously served as an Assistant Athletic Director at LSU.
