NEW ORLEANS -- There is only one GameDay left in the 2007 college football season and the LSU Fighting Tigers are going to be a part of it.

The Tigers, ranked second in the final Bowl Championship Series rankings, meet top-ranked Ohio State for the BCS title tonight in the Allstate BCS National Championship Game at 7:22 p.m. in the Louisiana Superdome. LSU will be looking to add the 2007 national championship to its previous titles won in 1958 and 2003 when LSU defeated Oklahoma also here in the Superdome.

More than 1,000 media credentials have been issued for the game to a world-wide list of papers, television, radio and internet sites and the game will be available for viewing or listening anywhere in the world.

Thom Brennaman, Charles Davis and Chris Myers will call the game for Fox Sports and the Fox broadcast is available outside the United State at bcsfootball.jumptv.com. The game of course will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network with Jim Hawthorne, Doug Moreau and Jordy Hultberg calling the game. ESPN Radio has the rights to the national broadcast of the game with Brent Musberger, Kirk Herbstreit and Lisa Salters on the call, while Dave Sims and Gary Danielson will handle the call for XM Satellite Radio.

LSU is 11-2 on the season, coming off a Southeastern Conference championship game win in Atlanta on Dec. 1 over Eastern Division Champion Tennessee, 21-14. The Buckeyes, 11-1 and who have not played since beating Michigan in mid-November will be playing in their third BCS championship game.

LSU has been in New Orleans since last Wednesday, facing question after question from that media panel and fine-tuning the game plan the Tigers will take to the field this evening. By Sunday afternoon, this was a Tiger team that was ready to play then.

“I think our team is ready to play, looking forward to getting to the field and I hope that we back off on the emotion a little bit, to be honest with you, so that we can end up on that field in a nice, clean framework,” said LSU Coach Les Miles. “The coaching staff keeps looking at the calendar: ‘Are we playing today? Are we playing today?’ “

The time away though has done wonders for the Tigers health and many of the players who were slowed or unable to play in the SEC Championship Game or the final few weeks of the season seem reenergized and ready to unleash a big effort tonight in the Dome.

“I think you’ll find that all the key participants of our football team are healthier than they’ve ever been and look forward to playing long and hard,” said Miles.

Tonight the seniors will put on the purple and gold for the last time at LSU and make the walk on to the field for the most important football game that is going to be played this season. For some, it will be the last football game they play. For LSU fans, who gobbled up tickets by the handful and searched for more for weeks, this may well be one of the most important football games in LSU history.

Coach Miles knows the importance of the game and the importance of the time and will remember back to some of the speeches a certain Michigan coach gave him as a player.

“Emotion in this game for me,” Miles said, “would be that the seniors that are now graduating, who I look to speak to in my final talk to the team, that it will evoke the same emotion that coach (the late Bo) Schembechler evoked for me.”

That emotion will come running out of the tunnel in the form of an LSU Tiger team looking for the ultimate goal one more time: BCS National Champions. Winning on the grandest stage of all in front of the nation, in front of the world, playing in the city of New Orleans – that would be pretty special indeed.

Kickoff is just hours away.
