BATON ROUGE – Three members of the LSU women’s golf team had strong performances Tuesday in national tournaments, with one advancing to match play.

Sophomore Carly Ray Goldstein birdied the final two holes of her second round Tuesday at The Home Course in Dupont, Wash., to shoot 2-under par 70 and a two-day total of 2-under 142 to easily advance as one of the top 64 into the match play portion of the event which will begin on Wednesday. This will be the first of two national events Goldstein will play in the next few weeks as she has also qualified for the United States Women’s Amateur.

Goldstein was in 17th place late in the second round and her opponent will be determined once the final bracket is decided after the tie for the 64th place is determined.

Lindsay Gahm, who finished her LSU career this past season, and junior-to-be Elise Bradley both opened play in the North-South Women’s Amateur at Pinehurst No. 8 on Tuesday and Gahm is tied for third with an even par round of 71 of three birdies and three bogeys.

Bradley had two birdies in her round of 5-over 76 and stands in a group tied for 31st place after the first day of qualifying.

In the North-South event, the format is slightly different from the USGA event as the field will be cut after another qualifying round on Wednesday to the top 60 and ties. That group will play another stroke play round before cutting to the top 16 for match play.

Both tournaments have web sites with live scoring with the WAPL at usga.org and the North-South event is at www.pinehurst.com/golf/tournaments/north-south-womens-amateur-championship. Follow LSU women’s golf on Facebook at www.facebook.com/LSUwomensgolf and on Twitter @LSUwomensgolf.
