Cross Country Finishes Season at NCAA's
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The LSU cross country teams ended their seasons after competing in the NCAA South Central Regional held at Agri Park XC course in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday.
The Lady Tigers finished eighth out of 19 schools with a total score of 230.
"We fell apart a little bit on the women's side," LSU head coach Mark Elliott said. "We were hoping for a top-three finish, but one of our top runners had to drop out of the race with a back issue and that threw us off."
Senior Laura Carleton once again finished as the top Lady Tiger, making it her sixth-consecutive race to lead the team. Carleton finished the women's 6k race in 20th place with a time of 21 minutes, 40.11 seconds.
Trailing Carleton for the Lady Tigers were senior Dakota Goodman in 27th place at 21:54.53, senior Charlene Lipsey in 33rd place at 22:13.83, senior Leigh-Ann Naccari in 71st place at 23:15.47 and junior Laura Aleman in 93rd place at 23:47.66.
"Overall the women had a great season," Elliott said. "It is one of the best seasons we have ever had."
Also, after finishing in the Top 25, Carleton was named as a member of the All-Region team.
On the men's side, sophomore Phillip Primeaux led the Tigers by finishing in 82nd place with a time of 33:31.29 in the 10k race. Primeaux's time of 33:31.29 seconds is a personal best at the Agri Park Cross Country Course.
"When all is said and done, the guys had a decent season considering what we came to the table with," Elliott said. "Hopefully next year they will continue to get better and we can pull better results as we go along."
The Tigers placed 18th overall with a total of 492 points.
Next action for the Tigers and Lady Tigers will be with the opening of the indoor track and field season. The season opener will take place on January 12, 2013 at Fair Park Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
