BATON ROUGE -- In his debut as a returner, LSU's Patrick Peterson was named the Southeastern Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week after a school-record 257-yard performance.

Peterson, a junior cornerback, had an 87-yard punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter and had two returns to midfield that setup scores on the ensuing play.

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton and Kentucky linebacker Danny Trevathan were named the league's offensive and defensive honors, respectively. South Carolina's T.J. Johnson and Florida defensive tackle Jaye Howard were the linemen of the week, and Mississippi State quarterback Tyler Russell was the freshman of the week.
