BATON ROUGE -- Angela Jones, a former sales representative of four years, has been named director of operations for the LSU women's basketball program, head coach Van Chancellor announced on Monday.

Jones, a native of Meridian, Miss., comes to LSU after serving as a sales representative for Abbott Laboratories in Tuscaloosa, Ala., for two years. The Chicago based corporation recently made the "Most Respected Companies" list of Barron's financial magazine.

During her tenure, she was a key figure in executing the company's brand strategy while utilizing her marketing and selling skills in the community.

"I am honored and excited about joining a program that is as nationally recognized as LSU is," Jones said. "The coaching staff has been great to me and I am looking forward to the season ahead with the team. I hope to bring a lot of my marketing background to the program, whether it is through our golf tournament, camps or other events we put on throughout the year."

At LSU, Jones will serve as the liaison to the team and Coach Chancellor's community efforts while also assisting in the day-to-day operations of the program and the Fast Break Club.

"We are excited about the addition of Angela to our staff," said Chancellor. "She is a great person with outstanding people skills that will benefit our program in a number of areas. Her background in sales and community involvement is an important reason we hired her. She will use those skills to help our program, alumni and fans."

Prior to her responsibilities at Abbott Laboratories, Jones was a sales representative at Novartis Pharmaceuticals in Meridian. In two years, she quickly established herself in the profession as she was the recipient of the Rising Star Award while ranking in the top eight representatives in the entire region. On numerous occasions, she led the district in call plan attainment.

Jones, 26, got her start in marketing and sales as a student assistant in the marketing and promotions office at Mississippi State University. She assisted in the department's marketing efforts of all sports, recruiting sponsors and local businesses for athletic events and maximizing ticket sales efforts.

Jones was a three-year varsity cheerleader at Mississippi State and a member of the American Marketing Association. She served as chairman of policies and procedures for her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta. The group was an active participant in raising money for victims of Hurricane Katrina. She was a member of the homecoming court as a junior.

Jones received a bachelor of science degree in business administration/marketing from Mississippi State in May 2006.
