BATON ROUGE – LSU senior Rahim Alem has been named defensive player of the week in the Southeastern Conference, the league office announced on Monday.
Alem, a defensive end from New Orleans, recorded a career-best seven tackles, a sack and a pass breakup in LSU’s 23-9 win over Vanderbilt. Six of Alem’s seven tackles were solo stops and his sack went for an 11-yard loss and came on a third-down opportunity for the Commodores midway through the fourth quarter with the Tigers leading 16-9
Alem led an LSU defense that held Vanderbilt to just seven points and 210 yards of offense – 122 rushing, 88 passing. Dating back to last year, Alem has now recorded a sack in four of LSU’s last five games.
The honor is the first of Alem’s career and also marks the first time this year that an LSU player has been recognized as the SEC Player of the Week.
