BATON ROUGE -- LSU’s celebration of 100 years of collegiate basketball begins on Wednesday as balloting will begin on the first of a series of All-Decade Teams that will eventually lead to the selection of an All-Century team of LSU players.

The voting will be online at www.LSUsports.net and will begin at 10 a.m. CT on Wednesday with the unveiling of the nominees for the All-Decade teams of the 1940s and 1950s. Fans will be asked to choose their five top players from each of the decades. Nomination information on the candidates, selected by the centennial committee, will be available on line and in the game program Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the LSU-Auburn game at the Maravich Center.

Fans can vote on the 1940s and 1950s team through Feb. 15

The 1960s and 1970s All-Decade team ballots will be unveiled on Jan. 26 at the Arkansas game, the 1980s and 1990s ballot will be shown for the first time at the Feb. 9 game with Tennessee and the final all-decade ballot from the 2000s will be available for voting on the day of the Kentucky game on Feb. 16.

The all-decade team, along with the early years team from 1909-1939 (that will be selected by the centennial committee) will be announced at the final home game of the 2008 season on March 5 against Alabama. All former players who make the all-decade teams will be eligible for the ballot for the All-Century team with voting to take place in the summer and early fall.

Starting in February, fans will also be able to go to the LSUsports.net site and nominate their top LSU basketball moments for the list of 100 greatest moments in LSU basketball and a site will be created that will allow former players and LSU basketball staff members to provide their latest contact information to the athletic department so they can receive information about the 100th anniversary reunion of former players that will take place in the Maravich Center on Jan. 30, 2009, the night the All-Century team will be announced.

“We have already heard from several former players and members of the centennial committee who have old pictures and films of games that they are getting to us to be able to further showcase the history of LSU basketball,” said centennial co-chairman Kent Lowe, Senior Associate SID at LSU. “This voting on the all-decade teams is already drawing the interest of our fans and we look forward over the next several weeks to see how the voting plays out.”

Tickets for the LSU-Auburn game are available online at LSUsports.net and at the LSU Athletics Ticket Office. Tickets are $14 for adults and $5 for youth (ages 3-12). LSU students are admitted free with valid ID and this will be one of the two student point games for LSU men’s basketball this season. There is no television for the contest with the radio broadcast available on the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network, the “Geaux Zone” at LSUsports.net and the SEC Channels on XM Satellite Radio.
