BATON ROUGE – Legendary basketball figure Shaquille O’Neal will make his annual September visit to Baton Rouge to conduct his annual Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 20 at Carter Plantation.
As usual, the tournament will be played on the Friday prior to a home LSU football game, this time the Southeastern Conference opener with Auburn which is scheduled for Sept. 21.
The tournament, presented by Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital raises money for the Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills Program. Through this program, LSU’s student-athletes are provided with the skills, tools and resources necessary to be successful in life after graduation. The Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills Program serves as a means to prepare student-athletes for life after college by focusing on five areas: academic excellence, athletic excellence, community service, personal development and career development.
There will be an 8 a.m. start and a 1 p.m. grouping on Sept. 20. The cost to enter a team is $1,000 which includes one round of golf, a photo with O’Neal along with meals before and after play, t-shirt, diddy bag and a post-round awards ceremony. Awards will be given for net scores, gross score, closest to the pin, longest drive and for a hole-in-one.
Sponsorship categories are also available as a hole sponsor ($500), Tip-Off Sponsor ($5,000), Slam-Dunk Sponsor ($7,500) and Presenting Sponsor ($10,000).
