BATON ROUGE -- Two former LSU football players will make their Canadian Football League debut this weekend as Peter Dyakowski and Adrian Mayes have made the final cut and appear on CFL rosters for the 2007 season.
Dyakowski, who recently finished his LSU career, is listed as the No. 2 offensive tackle for the Hamilton Tiger Cats, while Adrian Mayes is a backup linebacker and special teams contributor for the Toronto Argonauts.
Mayes and the Argonauts’ season-opener against British Columbia will be being televised live by Cox Sports Television (CST) at 5:30 p.m. CT on Thursday. Dyakowski and the Hamilton Tiger Cats open their season at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday when they travel to face Calgary. That game is also being televised locally by CST.
Dyakowski joined the Tigers Cats last week after being released by the New Orleans Saints following a recent mini-camp. Dyakowski was a second round pick (11th overall) by Hamilton in last year’s CFL Draft. Dyakowski started all 13 games for LSU in 2006, helping the Tigers to an 11-2 overall mark and a No. 3 final national ranking.
Mayes joined the CFL after a two-year stint in the NFL that saw the Houston native see action during the 2004 and 2005 seasons for the Arizona Cardinals. Mayes, who also played in NFL Europe, played in seven games during his NFL career.
Mayes capped his LSU career in 2003 after helping the Tigers to the national title that season. In four years with the Tigers, Mayes played in 47 games and registered 48 tackles, one tackle for a loss, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a blocked kick.
