BATON ROUGE -- LSU football signee Chad Jones was selected by the Houston Astros in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball first-year player draft, which continued on Friday.
Jones, a product of Southern Lab in Baton Rouge, was taken with the 17th pick in the 13th round (411th pick overall).
Jones was one of Louisiana’s top all-around prep athletes as a senior, earning 1A First-Team All-State honors in both football and baseball. In football, Jones recorded 138 tackles and 12 interceptions, returning six of those for scores. He also rushed for 464 yards and 12 touchdowns on offense.
In baseball, Jones hit. 577 with six home runs and 24 RBIs for Southern Lab. He also stole 15 bases for the Kittens.
