WILMINGTON, Del. -- This season, Chase and LSU are making it easier, more convenient and quicker than ever for LSU fans to buy a hot dog and soft drink and get back to their seats to enjoy their nationally ranked Tigers play.
Today, Chase and LSU have teamed up to bring credit card acceptance to Tiger Stadium for payment at designated concession and merchant stands throughout the stadium. Tiger Stadium also becomes the first college stadium to accept contactless credit card payments with blink technology.
With an average of 13,150 hot dogs, 54,385 soft drinks, 16,703 bottles of water, 8,728 orders of nachos and 6,841 bags of peanuts sold at each game, getting through lines more quickly is music to the ears of the more than 92,000 fans at each Tiger home game. Game day facts:
- With hot dogs roughly six inches in length, Tiger fans consume 6,823 feet, or more than a mile of hot dogs at each home game.
- Soft drinks are 16 oz. at Tiger Stadium. During an average home game, fans will consume more than 6,000 gallons of soft drinks, which would cover 80 yards of the football field.
- A bottle of water is 12 inches long, so end to end, fans will drink 200,436 feet of bottled water, or enough to fill the length of 556 football fields.
Surprisingly, most college stadiums are not equipped to handle credit or debit card transactions. “You don’t go to a game to stand in line,” remarked Skip Bertman, Athletic Director at LSU.
“But with most major college stadiums seating more than 80,000 people, it’s likely that fans will miss the big play doing just that,” added Bertman.
“Tiger fans deserve the best, and this technology advancement creates a better fan experience,” stated Bertman. “Whether fans forgot to bring extra cash or simply want to earn rewards with each purchase, credit cards offer convenience and these extra perks.”
As the official bank of the LSU Tigers, Chase has partnered with LSU since 1998 to provide alumni and fans a credit card that gives back to the University with each card purchase in support of LSU’s athletic programs. In addition, LSU cardmembers can add Chase’s proprietary rewards product to their card, which helps them earn one point for every dollar spent on all card purchases. Once cardmembers have earned 2,500 points, they can redeem them for travel, cash, gift cards and merchandise options.
"Chase is proud to extend our partnership with LSU so we can make attending games the best possible experience for the fans,” said Paul Zoppi, vice president, Chase Card Services. “Deepening our relationship with LSU will help enhance the products and services that we provide to alumni, fans and students.”
LSU blink Visa card
Instead of swiping their card or handing it to a concessions’ employee, LSU blink Visa cardmembers simply hold their card near the point-of-sale terminal, the terminal will quickly emit a signal to acknowledge payment confirmation in a safe, secure and time-saving manner. blink technology has already found success at other large sports stadiums such as PETCO Park in San Diego, Ameriquest Field in Arlington, Texas and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Consumers may sign up for an LSU blink Visa card at designated locations within Tiger Stadium. In addition, consumers may visit www.chaseblink.com or call 1-877-49-blink.
