BATON ROUGE -- Football players Andrew Decker and David Impastato paid a visit to Women’s Hospital Friday to celebrate National Give Kids a Smile Day.

More than 160 elementary school children bused in from throughout Baton Rouge for a free tooth cleaning in an effort to fight early childhood tooth decay and to show kids how to properly brush their teeth.

"I'm excited to get my teeth cleaned and meet LSU football players all at the same time,” said Armani James, a second-grader from Broadmoor Elementary.

Decker and Impastato spent time with the children in the waiting room just before their visit, showing them proper tooth-brushing technique and handing out miniature footballs.

"It was a great experience teaching kids about proper dental hygiene and easing their nerves about their teeth cleaning,” said Impastato.

Give Kids a Smile Day is sponsored by the American Dental Association and was founded in 2002 in St. Louis and has since spread all across the country. In 2008, more than 480,000 children were treated at nearly 2,000 locations across the country.
