BATON ROUGE -- The LSU football team picked another top 10 preseason ranking on Friday as the Tigers are ranked No. 9 in Street & Smith’s College Football 2006 Yearbook.
The Street & Smith’s College Football Yearbook hits the newsstands on June 27. LSU running back Alley Broussard, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, is featured on the regional cover of this year’s magazine. Broussard is expected to be at full strength when the Tigers open fall camp in August.
In addition to the No. 9 national ranking for the Tigers, Street and Smith’s has LSU finishing second in the Southeastern Conference Western Division behind Auburn. LSU and Auburn meet on Sept. 16 in Jordan-Hare Stadium in a game televised nationally on CBS.
Individually, LSU free safety LaRon Landry has been named first-team All-America by the publication, while quarterback JaMarcus Russell and punter/placekicker Chris Jackson are both named honorable mention All-Americas.
Landry along with offensive guard Will Arnold are both first-team all-conference picks by the magazine.
LSU opens the 2006 campaign on Sept. 2 when the Tigers host Louisiana-Lafayette at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
