NEW YORK -- On the first day of the NFL Draft, LSU runningback Joseph Addai was selected as the Indianapolis Colts' first-round draft pick, 30th overall, while offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth (55th overall) by the Cincinnati Bengals and Claude Wroten (68th) by the St. Louis Rams were also taken.

Addai is the first LSU runningback to be selected in the draft's first round since Harvey Williams in 1991 (21st overall, Kansas City Chiefs). He also became the 26th first-round draft pick in school history, the third such in the past three seasons (Michael Clayton in 2004, Marcus Spears in 2005).

The Houston native is the first LSU player drafted by the Colts since Eugene Daniel in the eighth round of the 1984 draft.

Whitworth, a 6-7, 327-pound offensive tackle, was the 23rd pick of the second round (55th overall). He was the second Southeastern Conference player taken by the Bengals, as South Carolina cornerback Jonathan Joseph was Cincinnati's first round pick. Whitworth joins fellow former Tigers Tory James (CB) and Ben Wilkerson (C) on the Bengals roster.

Cincinnati last selected an LSU player in the 2000 draft, taking Mark Roman as the 34th overall pick in the second round.

In the third round, Claude Wroten was the third LSU player taken on day 1, as the St. Louis Rams grabbed the defensive tackle with the fourth pick of the round (68th overall).
