BATON ROUGE -- LSU swept this week's SEC Field Athlete of the Week awards as freshman Ricky Jean-Francois and sophomore Kathy Coleman earned the men's and women's honors, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Jean-Francois, a native of Miami, Fla., won the first spot put title of his collegiate career, taking home top honors at last week's LSU Twilight with a distance of 57-11 ¼. The mark, which ranks as the fourth-best in the SEC this season, tied his collegiate best and was six feet further than the nearest competitor.
Coleman, a native of St. Louis, Mo., finished as the top collegiate competitor in the long jump at the LSU Twilight, jumping a season-best and NCAA provisional distance of 20-6 1/2. The mark ranks as the 10th-best in the nation this season.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers return to action this weekend when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the SEC Indoor Championships this Friday through Sunday.
