Tigers Wrap Up SEC Championship in Ninth

St. Simons Island, Ga. – Playing in tough and windy conditions at the SEC Championship, the LSU men’s golf team shot a third round score of 13-over par 293 on Friday at the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club. The Tigers finished ninth, one spot away from qualifying for the match play portion of the championship, with a three-round total of 17-over 857 (282-282-293).
Luis Gagne and Trey Winstead had the low rounds of the day for LSU with 1-over par 71s. Gagne’s 71 earned him a tie for 16th with a 1-over 211. Winstead placed tied for 26th at 5-over 215. Nathan Jeansonne finished tied for 26th with a three-day total of 5-over 215 (71-69-75). Philip Barbaree tied for 41st with a 9-over 219, and Garrett Barber placed 69th at 25-over par.
Auburn had the lowest stroke play total with a 24-under 816 and they earned the No. 1 seed for match play that begins on Saturday morning. LSU finished just one stroke behind South Carolina (16-over 856) and two strokes behind Arkansas (15-over 855) for the seventh and eighth spots on the team leaderboard.
The Tigers will now wait and see where their NCAA regional destination will be. NCAA selections will be announced on May 1 at 8 p.m. CT on Golf Central. NCAA regionals will take place May 13-15.
