BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU fought hard throughout the third round of the 2019 SEC Women’s Golf Championship but came up short as the Tigers finished in ninth place, one spot short of advancing to match play for the first time.

“It was not the finish we were looking for today,” said LSU first-year head coach Garrett Runion. “Our ladies fought hard all day long, but weren’t able to make any birdies in the back nine and that proved to be the difference. We are disappointed we didn’t make match play, but optimistic about playing well enough the last couple of months to advance to NCAA Regionals.”

LSU shot a 305 in the final round and finished at a 54-hole score of 896. The Tigers made a six-place improvement over their 2018 finish under Runion’s tutelage.

Freshman Presley Baggett was the top player for LSU, finishing in a tie for 25th place at 6-over 222. Senior Kathleen Gallagher posted the second-best SEC Championship finish of her career at 7-over 223 on the Legacy Course at Greystone Golf and Country Club. Gallagher shot the low score of the round for LSU at 2-over 74.

Junior Monica Dibildox finished the tournament at 10-over 226, while sophomore Kendall Griffin shot an 11-over 227. Freshman Alden Wallace ended up shooting a 21-over 237.

“Kathleen is our only current player with NCAA postseason experience,” continued Runion. “The team is motivated to get better for regionals in a few weeks and not leave postseason play feeling the way we do now leaving Birmingham.”

LSU will find out on Wednesday, April 24, if the team is one of the 72 squads selected to advance to NCAA Regionals. The announcement will be made on the Golf Channel at 4:30 p.m. CT. The four regional sites are the Saugahatchee Country Club (Opelika, Alabama), Tumble Creek Golf Club (Cle Elum, Washington), Forest Akers Golf Courses-West (East Lansing, Michigan) and Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club (Norman, Oklahoma).
