O'Donoghue Highlights Day One of Hurricane Invitational

Coral Gables, Fla. – Abby O'Donoghue registered the best finish of the day out of the seven LSU athletes competing on day one of the Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium on Friday.
O’Donoghue, competing in the high jump, cleared a height of 1.79 meters (5’ 10.50”) to earn her silver medal. Kaitlyn Walker, who was competing alongside O’Donoghue, cleared a bar of 1.71 meters (5’ 7.25”) to place fourth in the event.
Jake Norris picked up the only other podium finish of the day with a bronze showing in the hammer throw with a toss of 67.27 meters (224 feet).
RC Walbrook, who is competing in his first decathlon of the season, currently is the top collegiate scorer in the field after five events with a total of 3,558 points. Ken Mullings, who is representing the Bahamas, has 3,998 points for the lead. Walbrook registered the top marks in the event in the 100 meter dash (10.72) for 924 points and the 400 meter dash (50.40) for 796 points. He recorded a long jump of 6.70 meters (21’ 11.75”) for 743 points, threw the shot put 11.75 meters (38’ 6.75”) for 591 points, and cleared a bar of 1.65 meters in the high jump for 504 points. He’ll close out competition on Saturday with the final five events of the decathlon with 110 meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500 meter run.
Chadd Burns tied for fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.25 meters (13’ 11.25”). Eli Gaughan (57.97m/190’ 2”) and Andre Girouard (56.77m/186’ 3”) finished sixth and seventh respectively in the javelin throw.
