SUNSET, S.C. – So close! Weather continued to play a key factor in the LSU women’s golf team’s attempt to finish out the 2018-19 season on a strong note. Sitting at 8-under through 12-15 holes in today’s final round of the Clemson Invitational, play was halted and later cancelled due to weather in the area on Tuesday afternoon.

LSU was playing the lowest round of any team on the course today when play was called. It had the potential to be the lowest round played by the Tigers since the 2014-15 season.

The Tigers finish the tournament at The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, South Carolina, at even par and in sixth place, as final results revert back to the totals after Round 2. LSU shot its first round of the season under par on Sunday with a 1-under 287, followed by a second round score of 1-over 289. Sunday’s team score was the first round under par for LSU since the third round of the SEC Championship on April 25, 2017. The last time LSU shot a tournament at par or under was The Alamo Invitational, October 26-28, 2014.

“Even though the final round was a wash today, our ladies are pumped heading into the SEC Championship next week,” said LSU first-year head coach Garrett Runion. SEC action begins on Wednesday, April 17 at Greystone Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama. Three rounds of stroke play will determine the top eight teams to advance to match play on April 20-21.

The Tigers had every reason to be pumped up with the round they were playing on Tuesday. Freshman Alden Wallace was sitting at 4-under through 15 holes, after shooting 3-under on the front nine. Sophomore Kendall Griffin was making a nice run at 2-under through 15 and junior Monica Dibildox was also at 2-uner through 12. Senior Kathleen Gallagher was holding at even par through 12 and rookie Presley Baggett was a 3-over through 12.

Tee times and pairings for the 2019 SEC Women’s Golf Championship will be announced early next week. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
