AUSTIN, Texas– After finishing in 11thplace in the three-meter prelims, LSU senior Lizzie Cui placed second in the Consolation Final on the second day of competition at the 2019 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas.
Cui dove to a score of 330.20 during the preliminary round to earn a chance to dive in the Consolation Finals. In the Consolation Finals, Cui dove to a score of 351.70, which is her highest three-meter score at the NCAA Championships over her four years as a Tiger.
“I’m so proud of Lizzie’s final collegiate performance,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “She had her best place finishes in her senior year and that is special. She concludes her career as one of the most decorated female divers in LSU history. Our journey has been memorable and special but it’s not over yet as we set our sights on Tokyo 2020.”
Also on the boards, Aimee Wilson finished in 25thplace with a score of 297.85 in her first appearance on three-meter at the NCAA Championships.
In the competition pool, Haylee Knight and Summer Spradley both placed 20thin their respective events. Knight touched the wall in 52.13 in the 100-Yard Butterfly and Spradley swam the 100-Yard Breaststroke in 59.77.
“There were some tough swims this morning,” said LSU head swimming coach Dave Geyer. “Both Haylee and Summer were where they needed to be at the 75-Yard mark and just came up a little short. That is this meet though, you have one shot to get that second swim with minimal room for error.”
