Women's Tennis Opens 2019 Season at USF
BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s tennis team will open up the 2019 dual season on the road against USF at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday.
The Tigers last faced the Bulls in dual competition in 2017 where they won 6-1 in Baton Rouge.
LSU also squared off against USF at the Albany Collegiate Invitational last Fall where the Tigers went 9-1 in singles play and 6-0 doubles.
LSU is one of just five women’s tennis programs in the country along with UCLA, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Wake Forest to boast three or more doubles teams in the Oracle/ITA Top-60.
Seniors Jessica Golovin and Kennan Johnson will provide veteran leadership this season, while sophomore Eden Richardson will look to continue her impressive career in Purple and Gold. After tallying a 9-4 record in Fall competition and earning herself a spot in the ITA All-American Qualifying round, Johnson is ranked No. 72 in singles play. Johnson and freshman Anna Loughlan are the third ranked duo for the Tigers at No. 54.
Richardson took home two titles in the fall at the ITA Southern Regional Championships, winning singles and joining Golovin to secure the doubles win. The reigning NCAA doubles champions clinched the No. 9 spot in the latest ITA rankings.
Julia and Michael Sell are in their fourth season of coaching the Lady Tigers as co-head coaches.
The Bulls are 1-1 in the 2019 season heading into the match against the Tigers.
