Parker Invited to England U21 Training Camp
Asst. Communications Director
Baton Rouge, La. – Fresh off her All-America campaign, sophomore defender Lucy Parker has been invited to the England U21 training camp that will be held at St. George’s Park in Tatenhill, England from Jan. 14-17.
“In her 24 months at LSU, Lucy has improved as much as anyone I have ever coached," head coach Brian Lee said. "She isn’t where she or I envision her to be yet, but keeps working to be her best. She heads into the new year as a Hermann Trophy candidate and carrying a bright future with the Three Lions.”
Parker is one of 22 invitees on the list of young and youthful Lionesses that are looking to hone their skills alongside the country’s elite. A steady member of the England youth teams, Parker has earned over 20 international caps on the youth level of the England Women’s National Team system with the U15, U17 and U19 squads.
Parker is coming off a sophomore season in which she scored three goals to match a career high and she anchored a backline that allowed that fifth-lowest goals against average in school history, a stellar 0.98 GAA. The First Team All-SEC defender continually stifled the best attacker from opponents throughout the season, and she even filtered into LSU’s attack every now and then.
Her best offensive performance of the season came in LSU’s epic comeback victory over No. 8 South Carolina on Oct. 20, 2018. With LSU trailing late in the contest against the Gamecocks, Parker finished a shot from the right side of the box from about 12 yards out to equalize the match in the 89th minute. Less than 17 minutes later in the second stanza of overtime play, the native of Cambridge, England, curled in a shot from 30 yards out to give LSU its first overtime win since 2013.
Parker went on to lead LSU to its first ever SEC Tournament title and a trip to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. Parker is one of 25 underclassmen set to return for the Tigers in 2019.
