Three Tigers Finish in Top Five on Day Two in Athens

Athens, Ga. – For the second day in a row, three Tigers finish in the top five at the Georgia Diving Invitational. Juan Celaya-Hernandez followed up his one-meter springboard victory on Friday with a win on the three-meter springboard Saturday. Lizzie Cui and Aimee Wilson finished in second and third place, respectively on the one-meter springboard.
“We performed well today and were led by strong performances by Juan winning the three-meter and Lizzie and Aimee placing second and third on one-meter,” said LSU diving head coach Doug Shaffer. “I’m happy with the way the entire squad is competing. The competition is deep and the events are long. This prepares us well for our championship season.”
Juan Celaya-Hernandez won the one-meter springboard by over 55 points as he finished with a score of 428.50. In the finals, Celaya-Hernandez averaged a 71.42 over his six dives.
Matthew Phillip reached the finals and finished in eighth place after diving to a score of 339.10.
Also on the men’s side, Dakota Hubris finished in 15thplace with a score of 295.40 and Matt McClellan finished in 18thplace after diving to score of 287.10.
On the women’s side, Lizzie Cui finished in second place for the second straight day after diving to a score of 307.90 on the one-meter springboard.
Aimee Wilson finished in third place with a score of 294.70. For Wilson, a 294.70 is good for her second-best score on the one-meter springboard this season.
Jolie Blodgett finished in 22ndplace overall, scoring a 234.25.
The Georgia Diving Invitational will conclude tomorrow as both the men and women will compete on the platform. Competition will begin at 9 a.m. CT.
