BATON ROUGE -- The LSU women’s basketball team fell on the road Saturday to Rutgers by the score of 57-43.
The Lady Tigers are 5-3 on the season while Rutgers improved to 7-3.
LSU won the rebound game, grabbing 36 boards compared to Rutgers’ 30.
The Lady Tigers’ defense set the tone early in the first quarter and closed out the period leading 13-7. It was a defensive battle for much of the game, but LSU was unable to stay in the game offensively.
LSU had a tough stretch in the second quarter where Rutgers put together a 21-point period, holding the Lady Tigers to just six points.
“This group has the potential,” said LSU coach Nikki Fargas. “They won’t quit on me and we’re still trying to find our way in certain areas of who is going to be our go-to scorers when the game is on the line, who we can go to inside and on the perimeter. That’s something we’re going to have to continue to work on. We’re better when we have a balanced attack.”
The Lady Tigers came out after the half to put together a 9-0 run and come within two points with 2:54 left in the third period.
LSU will return to the PMAC Tuesday, December 18 to face Nicholls with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m.
