NASHVILLE --- The No. 37 LSU women’s tennis team fell at the hands of the country’s second-ranked team, losing by a score of 4-0 to Vanderbilt at the Currey Tennis Center Saturday.

The Tigers dropped to 13-8 (4-7 SEC) on the season with the loss while Vanderbilt improved to 17-3 (10-1 SEC).

A ranked matchup between LSU’s No. 36 pairing of Jessica Golovin and Eden Richardson and Vanderbilt’s No. 56 pairing of Emily Smith and Emma Kurtz on court one went unfinished at 4-4 as Vanderbilt took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.

The Tigers fought hard in singles all afternoon as Richardson, ranked No. 96 in the country, picked up a first-set tiebreaker over No. 40 Christina Rosca. No. 121 Ryann Foster was narrowly edged out in the first set by Vanderbilt’s ninth-ranked Astra Sharma, 6-4, before taking a 5-2 lead in the second as her and Richardson’s matches were unable to be completed.

No. 3 Fernanda Contreras won her first set against No. 82 Golovin on court two before Golovin fought back to force a tiebreak in the second set, which ultimately went in favor of Contreras.

Two more singles wins on courts four and five sealed the deal for the Commodores, who clinched the 4-0 win on court five.

The Tigers’ final weekend of conference play will come on the road, first at Alabama on Friday, April 13, at 5 p.m. CT, then at No. 17 Auburn on Sunday, April 15, at noon CT to conclude the regular season.
