Softball Drops Series Finale at Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The 13th-ranked LSU softball team dropped the series finale, 5-4, at Missouri Sunday afternoon in Mizzou Softball Stadium. LSU is now 29-6 on the year and 5-3 in the SEC. Missouri improves to 20-19 on the year and 3-9 in conference action.

The Tigers had a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but Missouri scored four runs on one hit to claim the victory. Carley Hoover walked three-straight for Missouri to cut the deficit to 4-2. With two outs, Missouri singled to left to score three runs.

LSU got on the board first in the second, scoring two runs. Shemiah Sanchez drew a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. She would come around to score on Amber Serrett’s single up the middle. Shelbi Sunseri followed with a single to right field. The ball got passed the right fielder for an error and allowed Serrett to score, taking a 2-0 lead.

Another run came around in the third after an Amanda Doyle double to deep right center, scoring Aliyah Andrews.

LSU added one more run in the sixth. Freshman Shelbi Sunseri hit her third home run of the year and second of the weekend, a solo blast over the center field wall onto the berm.

Missouri answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot of its own off Hoover, cutting the LSU lead to 4-1.

Hoover took the loss and is now 12-3 on the year. She didn’t give up a hit until the fifth inning and allowed just three hits on the game, while striking out eight in 6.2 innings.

>> Sunseri’s home run was her third on the year and second on the weekend. In 19 at-bats, Sunseri has three home runs, a triple, a double and a single for six RBIs.

LSU will take another midweek break from SEC action, traveling to McNeese State on Tuesday, April 3.
