LAFAYETTE, La. – LSU freshman Jake Norris kicked off the day and his outdoor track & field collegiate career strong by winning the men’s hammer throw with a facility record of 232’ 10’’ (70.98m) in the Louisiana Classics Friday evening. His efforts place him among LSU’s best with the No. 3 mark in school history.

Norris’ second toss of 231’ 3’’ paced all preliminary marks to qualify for the finals, and he won the event by more than 50 feet.

For the men’s javelin throw, Andre Girouard recorded his preliminary-best attempt of 179’ 2’’ (54.61m), qualifying for the event finals, where he finished eighth overall.

On the women’s side in the javelin throw, fellow freshman Noel Baker also qualified for the finals after her second attempt of 147’ 10’’ (45.07m). Baker had the third-best prelim mark among the nine finalists. Baker finished the event in fourth place at the same mark.

In the women’s hammer throw, sophomore Dominique Hailey set a new personal-best with her toss of 150’ 5’’ (45.85m). Hailey led all Lady Tigers in the event with an 11th-place finish. Savannah Sledd (131’ 10’’/40.19m) placed 15th.
