Barbaree Leads General Hackler Championship after Day 1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C – Sophomore Philip Barbaree got off to a hot start at the General Hackler Championship today. Barbaree leads the tournament and has helped the Tigers secure a fourth-place spot going into the final round.

Barbaree opened his first round of Saturday off with a 4-under par 68, including a 3-under back nine where he carded three birdies and an eagle. Barbaree finished his second round of the day with a 1-under 71 to give him a total of 5-under 139 and a one-shot lead over North Carolina State’s Stephen Franken and Georgia Tech’s Luke Schniederjans.

Georgia Tech jumped out to a 36-hole lead with a score of -8, 568, gaining a one-shot advantage over Texas A&M. They are the only two teams under par. Kentucky is in third place with a two round score of even par 576, followed by South Carolina. Virginia rounded out the top-5 with a total of 592.

Junior All-American Luis Gagne finished day one tied for 13th. with rounds 74 and 69 giving him a 36-hole total of 143. Freshman Trey Winstead is tied for 45th with a total of 146, while fellow freshman Jacob Bergeron finished one shot behind Winstead with a total of 147. Nathan Jeansonne posted a total of 153.

The Tigers are paired with Virginia and North Carolina State for the final round of the General Hackler Championship and will tee off beginning at 9:15 ET.
