LSU Men's Golf Finishes Fourth at The Prestige

LA QUINTA, Calif. – Junior All-American Luis Gagne closed out The Prestige at PGA West on a strong note with a third-place finish. Gagne’s solid play helped the No. 9 ranked Tigers jump two spots, to fourth place in the team standings.

No. 1 Oklahoma State edged out Pepperdine by one stroke making them the tournament champion with a two-day total of 567, as they were the only team to finish under par for the tournament. Oregon finished in third place, four strokes off the lead. Stanford closed out the top 5, with a two-day total of 5-over par 573.

Gagne got off to a hot start with a bogey-free front nine, followed by an even par back nine, giving him a 3-under par 68 and a two-day total of 4-under par. The third-place finish gives him his second top-three placing of the season.

Sophomore Philip Barbaree fired a 1-under par 70 on the day, giving him a 2-over par total for the tournament. Freshman Trey Winstead wrapped up his final day of The Prestige with a 1-over par 72 and a two day total of 3-over par, while Jacob Bergeron rounded out the Tigers with a 4-over par 75 and a total of 3-over par. Both of the freshmen tied for 21st place. Nathan Jeansonne finished the tournament with a 10-over par total. Individual Blake Caldwell closed out the Prestige with a 4-over par 75 giving him an 8-over par total.

Pepperdine’s Clay Feagler posted a 7-under par total for the tournament giving him a one-stroke win over Oregon’s Norman Xiong. LSU’s Gagne finished three strokes off the pace set by Feagler. USC’s Justin Suh and Oklahoma State’s Zach Bauchou tied for fourth at 2-under par to round out the top-five individuals.

The Tigers return to action March 10-11 at the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
