Men's Golf Wraps Up First Round of The Prestige

LA QUINTA, Calif. – Junior All-American Luis Gagne and freshman Jacob Bergeron opened their first round at The Prestige at PGA West in red figures, after each carded a 1-under 71 to place them in a tie for ninth place. The No. 9 Tigers sit alone in sixth-place after they posted a team score of 3-over par 287.
No. 1 Oklahoma State and Oregon are tied for first, as they were the only teams to shoot under par on the day. Pepperdine sits in third place, two strokes off the leaders. Stanford and Northwestern rounded out the Top 5, each posting rounds of 2-over par.
With one round remaining in the wind-shortened tournament, Gagne is looking to secure his second top-10 finish of the year, while Bergeron is looking to capture his third.
Freshman Trey Winstead had a good start to the tournament, finishing his day 2-over par, tied for 27th. Philip Barbaree contributed a round of 3-over par to round out the scores for the Tigers. Nathan Jeansonne and Individual Blake Caldwell finished their rounds recording a 4-over par 75.
Northwestern’s Sam Triplett sits at 4-under par after the opening round and will carry a one-shot lead over Oregon’s Norman Xiong and Stanford’s Franklin Huang into the second and final round on Wednesday.
The Tigers are paired with Northwestern and Stanford for Wednseday’s final round at the 18th annual Prestige at PGA West as they will tee off from hole one starting at 8:25 a.m. PT.
