BATON ROUGE --- The LSU women’s tennis team took home a pair of victories after defeating Tulane, 4-2, and Southeastern Louisiana, 5-1, in Tuesday’s doubleheader at the LSU Tennis Complex.

The Tigers improved to 8-1 on the season with the win while Tulane fell to 6-4 and Southeastern fell to 3-4.

“We’re getting to that point in the season where they know how they need to play,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “I think we saw some instances today where we played lights out and had the mental discipline to go out and execute from start to finish.”

After dropping the doubles point to begin the Tulane match and falling on court six in singles, the Tigers overcame a 2-0 Tulane lead in singles to take the match with four straight singles victories.

Kennan Johnson was the first to pick up a point for the Tigers with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win on court four before No. 102 Ryann Foster tied the match a 2-2 with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court one.

Eden Richardson gave the Tigers the 3-2 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court three, while Jessica Golovin and Luba Vasilyuk were in a pair of third-set contests to decide the match.

Golovin clinched the match for the Tigers, picking up her tenth-straight singles win after dominating her third set, 6-0, earning the fourth and final point for LSU.

“In doubles, I thought we dropped the ball a little bit,” Sell said. “But we were able to pick right back up in singles and took care of business as the match went on.”

The Tigers rebounded in doubles against Southeastern, picking up the early 1-0 lead over the Lions with wins on courts one and two.

After dropping court six, the Tigers regained a 2-1 lead behind Golovin’s 6-0, 6-0 win on court two, her eleventh-straight victory dating back to the fall.

Foster followed quickly behind with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court one and Johnson clinched the match for the Tigers with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court four.

Singles play resumed as Richardson picked up her team-leading 18th singles victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court five to end the match 5-1 in favor of the Tigers.

LSU will return to action on Sunday, February 25 against Rice at 11 a.m. CT at the LSU Tennis Complex.
