Women's Basketball Falls to No. 15 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The LSU women’s basketball team dropped a close road contest against the No. 15 Texas A&M Aggies by a score of 69-59 at Reed Arena Monday. 

The Lady Tigers fell to 12-6 (4-3 SEC) with the loss while Texas A&M improved to 16-5 (5-2 SEC).

Raigyne Louis led LSU with 18 points while adding three rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Louis was one of three Lady Tigers with a double-digit scoring effort on the night as Chloe Jackson pitched in with 16 points and five rebounds and Ayana Mitchell posted 13 points, six rebounds and three steals.

The Aggies jumped out to an early 13-4 lead in the first quarter, but LSU responded with a 22-10 run to close out the second half, giving the Lady Tigers a 26-23 halftime lead.

Texas A&M tied the game at 34 apiece with just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter and ended the quarter with a 46-41 advantage over LSU.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers got as close as four points from the Aggies’ lead but Texas A&M ultimately came out on top and ended the game ten points ahead of LSU.

LSU forced 14 turnovers and kept pace with the Aggies on the offensive boards and points in the paint, but Texas A&M held a 39-29 advantage in total rebounds.

The Lady Tigers scored 10 fast break points compared to Texas A&M’s four, but struggled shooting from the field for stretches.

The Lady Tigers will return to Baton Rouge for a two-game home stand beginning with the Tennessee Lady Vols on Sunday, Jan. 28 at noon.
