BATON ROUGE --- The LSU women’s tennis team is officially ranked as the No. 22 team in the country according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s first rankings of 2018 released Wednesday.

The Tigers finished the 2017 season ranked No. 21 in the country after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will open the season ranked in the top-25 for the third year in a row.

LSU is currently the only women’s tennis program in the country with four players ranked in the top-75 and two ranked freshmen, and the Tigers will rely heavily on a strong freshman class to compete alongside established veterans.

All-American Ryann Foster returns to captain the team for her senior season, while juniors Jessica Golovin and Kennan Johnson will provide experience and leadership to a young Tigers squad featuring two of the top freshmen in the country.

Eden Richardson, ranked No. 56 in the country, led LSU in the fall with 10 wins, while No. 47 Elyse Lavender compiled eight wins and went a perfect 3-0 against ranked opponents.

LSU will open the 2018 season at home in a doubleheader against Northwestern State and Southern on Saturday, January 20.
