BATON ROUGE – Players and coaches from the LSU men’s basketball, women's basketball and gymnastics teams spent their Thursday afternoon on Tower Drive at the Student Block Party.
The annual block party is an opportunity for the teams to interact with students across campus in preparation for the upcoming seasons. There was a basketball court for students to shoot around as well as Kona Ice and popcorn for a quick snack.
“It’s an exciting time for our program,” LSU women’s basketball coach Nikki Fargas said. “To be able to come out here and spread the word about our team is exciting. We appreciate when they’re in the stands and it makes a huge difference for our team.”
The gymnastics team passed out schedule cards for the 2018 season, the men’s basketball team gave away ‘I Will Wade For You’ t-shirts and the women’s basketball squad promoted its student basketball tournament that will be held today.
“We love getting out here and interacting with students,” LSU gymnastics head coach D-D Breaux said. “They make a difference in our home meets. We want them to come out and treat our meets like a football game. They create an environment unlike anywhere in the country.
The LSU men’s basketball team opens its first season under head coach Will Wade at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 10. The women’s basketball team will have its home opener at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 12. The jersey of LSU great Sylvia Fowles will be retired in a ceremony at 1:30 p.m.
